Dr Paul Chiy (“The SP”) was granted Higher Rights of Audience as a Solicitor –Advocate (All Proceedings – Civil and Criminal) in the Higher Courts from November 2011. He was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn and posses a Full Qualification Certificate of the England and Wales Bar Standards Board. The SP has been on the Roll of Solicitors for England and Wales for the last 7 years. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. The SP was elected into fellowship of Selwyn College, University of Cambridge in 1999.He is a Jurist (arbitrator/mediator) with the Cameroon Centre D’Arbitage Du GICAM, was appointed Magistrate (Cambridge Bench, United Kingdom) on 27 July 2004 and remains in the Supplemental List for England and Wales.
SP’s experience spans the public and private sectors of both developed and developing countries and straddles all the three arms of government (the judiciary, executive and legislature). He currently advises Her Majesty Government (HMG) as a Deployable Civilian Expert (DCE) with the UK Government’ as a member of the UK Civilian Stabilisation Group (CSG). Between December 2010 and July 2012, he was the Legal Advisor to the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
From 2009 to 2011 he established the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (“CADR”). He previously headed the disputes and regulatory compliance departments at Sherman Phillips Solicitors in London; served in various legal capacities for over seven years with the UK Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem);served for seven years as a magistrate on the Cambridge Bench; and worked as a researcher at the University of Cambridge and the University of Wales, Bangor.
His numerous academic credentials include a PhD from the University of Wales, Bangor; a Master of Law from Queen Mary, University of London; an MSc from Anglia Ruskin University; a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice; a Bachelor of Laws; and a BSc from the University of Wales, Bangor.In 1998 he was featured in the prestigious publication Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering for demonstrating “outstanding achievement in their field of endeavour and who have, thereby, contributed significantly to the betterment of contemporary society.”
At the moment, the Dr Chiy is also a visiting professor at the Catholic University of Cameroon and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Saint Monica University.
